Maria Desiderata Montana
I am a published author and award-winning food and wine journalist who gained an appreciation of European cuisine from my parents who were born and raised in Calabria, Italy. My mother taught me how to cook at an early age using fresh, organic ingredients including fava beans, tomatoes, and an assortment of fruits and vegetables from my father’s garden. I love to be in the kitchen creating new recipes for my family and friends.
Currently, I contribute to the Wednesday Food Section of the San Diego Union-Tribune, and have my own monthly 'Step by Step' recipe series. I continue to write for the Night and Day Entertainment Section of The San Diego-Union Tribune as well as Sign On San Diego, where I have been extensively published for many years.

I served as Food and Wine Editor for Ranch and Coast Magazine for 5 years and continue to write for Dining Out Magazine where I have been published locally in their San Diego edition, and nationally in their Toronto, Canada, Fort Lauderdale, and New York City issues.
