DESTINATION HOTELS EXECS JOIN FORCES TO OVERSEE REINVENTION OF HISTORIC TOWN AND COUNTRY RESORT
Two veteran hospitality executives with more than five decades of industry experience between them are poised to combine talents once more to oversee the massive $80 million renovation of San Diego’s landmark Town and Country Resort & Convention Center.
Tapped again by Destinations Hotels, Michael Slosser and Paul McCabe are the masterminds behind the $27 million renovation and repositioning of the Southern California boutique-style L’Auberge Del Mar, A Destination Hotel. Slosser spearheaded the transformation from a dark and dated inn into a warm and inviting coastal retreat while McCabe launched its resoundingly successful Kitchen 1540 restaurant, garnering critical and public acclaim.
Next up, the duo has been tasked to reinvent Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, a Mission Valley mainstay.
The Westgate Hotel and Modern Time Beer to Host BEERology on October 9
Beer Pairing Event will Feature Tastings of Special Release Brews, Bites and Educational Aspect
The Westgate Hotel and Modern Times Beer are partnering to present BEERology on Friday, October 9 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Riviera Terrace Fountain under the stars. Guests can expect to taste five hand-selected Modern Times brews, including two special releases, accompanied by perfectly paired appetizers created by the Westgate’s Executive Chef Fabrice Hardel.
The beer tastings will be led by Modern Times’ very own Phil MacNitt, known fondly in the industry as “The Beer Jesus,” and will include two special release beers (Lost Horizon Double IPA and the Fruitlands Sour Cherry Gose), two year-round beers (Lomaland Saison and Black House) and a seasonal beer (Aurora Red Rye IPA). Phil will discuss the San Diego craft beer scene, its history and tap into Modern Times’ aroma-driven beers that are often hybrid-style beers.
Duke’s honors Duke Kahanamoku, a native Hawaiian, the father of modern day surfing, and six-time Olympic swimming and water polo medalist. Guests will get a glimpse into the remarkable life of the restaurant’s namesake as well as tap into the La Jolla beach lifestyle.
The Duke’s La Jolla menus will celebrate the melting pot of cultures and cooking techniques of Hawaii and California. The menu items will be crafted to be playful and approachable, but with a thoughtful respect for traditions and a serious focus on all-natural ingredients and seasonal, locally-sourced products. Signature items will include: Tahitian Octopus cooked on a wood grillwith smoked papaya, cucumber, lime and coconut milk, Charred Snap Peas with burnt pineapple vinaigrette and brie, Lilikoi Ceviche with coriander stem, tomato, avocado, Fresno chili, their famous Roasted Firecracker Fish with Suzie’s Farm cabbage, gailan, ginger sprouts and 24 Hour Kalbi Short Rib served withhousemade kimchee, smoked potato salad and Kewpie yogurt.
