Art San Diego 2015

Art San Diego 2015

ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Show, taking place Nov. 5-8 at the Balboa Park Activity Center, announces its lineup of specially curated programs including Art Labs, the LaunchPad Program and Spotlight ProgramsThis year’s curatorial theme is [META.MORPHOSIS], exploring the ever-evolving landscape in San Diego. ART SAN DIEGO is known for showcasing cutting-edge talent, artistic expression and diversity through an array of multi-faceted programs—this year is no different.

These programs provide a dynamic experience for attendees, allowing them to view and interact with works created by leading international artists, experience leading museums outside the museum walls, and enjoy exhibitions that showcase the thriving art landscape of San Diego.

Art Labs feature specially curated projects by several leading San Diego-based art institutions, alternative spaces, and universities within the show. Major Art Labs this year include:

TIMELINE PROJECT—[META.MORPHOSIS]: San Diego’s Evolving Art Landscape

The Timeline Project will depict a retrospective of the past and present San Diego Art Prize recipients. The 120′ x 8′ wall will be built by ECOR Noble Environmental Design, with the graphic design created by students from the Media Design School of Digital Arts at NewSchool of Architecture & Design.

LIGHT THE NIGHT—Installations by Lana Z. Caplan, Tiffany Carbonneau and Shannon Willis

At the forefront of video, light mapping and interactive installation, the work of these three female artists will illuminate the entryway, patio and façade of ART SAN DIEGO. This installation celebrates the ways we are shaped by art that intervenes with our built and natural environment. Curated by Ginger Shulick Porcella of San Diego Art Institute.

MOVEABLE FEAST— A collaboration between San Diego Art Institute and San Diego Mesa College who have teamed up to showcase the work of emerging and established artists. The collaboration between these two organizations is rooted in our mutual interests to promote artists, exhibit their works, and network with the San Diego community. Museum Studies students will be curating the exhibit, managing the booth and focusing on outreach during the art fair.

ART SAN DIEGO’s Spotlight Programs gives collectors a focused look at several emerging, cutting-edge artists.

ARTE Cuba is a stand-alone event hosted by Redwood Media Group in San Diego and Miami as part of the ART SAN DIEGO and Spectrum Miami Contemporary Art Shows. ARTE Cuba will present a carefully curated collection of Cuban modern, contemporary art represented by galleries, art dealers and the artists themselves. Director Stacy Conde, an established gallerist specializing in Cuban art, will curate ARTE Cuba. Artists include Darian Rodriguez Mederos, Luis Enrique Toledo and Andres Conde.

Every year, ART SAN DIEGO’s LaunchPad Program provides a young, unrepresented artist the opportunity to present a site-specific exhibition within the show.

Brittany Segal is a San Diego-based artist who has gained significant recognition for her paintings and small detailed drawings. Her work ranges from abstract oil pieces to acrylic graphic works. Her drawings range from purposefully yet hauntingly illegible writings to intricate small designs. Brittany’s recent works have been displayed at SCOPE New York through Soze Gallery and the ACD Gallery Pop Up show. She has also graced the cover of Entityy Magazine as the issue’s main featured artist.

ART SAN DIEGO is owned by Redwood Media Group, organizer of leading art shows across the country, connecting top artists, gallery owners and publishers with buyers, collectors and dealers who love their work. Tickets for ART SAN DIEGO are priced at $25 online/$30 at-the-door for general admission.
