Karina’s Group Launches New Fast Casual Concept Karina’s Ceviches & More on India Street’s International Restaurant Row. Convenient, Fast, Delicious Karina’s Ceviches & More to Serve Top Picks from Popular Full-Service Mexican Seafood Restaurants San Diego, CA, March 9, 2017 — Karina’s Group, the San Diego hospitality firm behind South Bay’s famed Karina’s Mexican Seafood restaurants, Savoie Eatery and recent addition Saffron Thai, takes another jump into the spotlight with the upcoming launch of Karina’s Ceviches & More, a fast-casual concept on India Street’s celebrated International Restaurant Row featuring a selection of the group’s popular ceviches, seafood cocktails, tacos, and burritos.

Karina’s Ceviches & More streamlined operation will greet customers at a to-go window, giving them the option to take delicious fare back to the workplace or home, or to eat al fresco on the adjacent sunny patio. The menu, designed to appeal to the diverse crowds that throng the district through the day, includes such top sellers from the highly regarded full-service Karina’s Mexican Seafood restaurants as the Ceviche Karina’s of shrimp, cucumber and avocado in a signature green chile sauce, a zesty campechana cocktail of shrimp, octopus and scallops, over 14 kinds of tacos and a large selection of burritos stuffed with delicious options like rotisserie chicken, shrimp and rib-eye steak. With prices as low as $3 for a Baja fish taco and $8 for a carnitas burrito – not to mention a hearty side of rice and beans for just $3 – guests will find the menu affordable enough to mix and match menu items without breaking the bank. At Karina’s Ceviches & More, there’s something to suit every taste, at a speedy pace and in a bustling neighborhood known for some of San Diego’s most popular dining destinations.

The new take-out eatery is another happy result of Karina’s recent investment in Saffron Thai, which has undergone a significant renovation and continues to serve the excellent, healthy cuisine created by founder Su-Mei Yu that has pleased loyal fans for more than 30 years. Karina’s Ceviches & More fills a neighboring space that was originally the Saffron Thai Chicken shop, but in the last few years had been used solely as a supplementary kitchen. So the enticing flavors of Mexican and Thai cuisines – subtle, fresh, spectacular – will now bloom side-by-side.

Co-proprietor David Contreras Curiel finds several advantages to expanding the successful brand of restaurants his father created over 35 years ago with the opening of Karina’s Ceviches & More. “It was a challenge to fit Karina’s into the small space of this former kitchen,” he says. “But the new concept allows us to appeal to a wider audience and meet the growing demand for fast-casual eateries offering high-quality, hand-crafted fare at affordable prices.”

Karina’s Ceviches & More will open later this month at 3731-B India Street (near the corner of India St. and Washington St. in Mission Hills) and will mark the occasion with free tacos at a special grand opening #FreeTacoTuesday event for the public.

About Karina’s Group

In 1981, Arnulfo Contreras and his wife, Maria Ines Curiel, opened a small but ambitious restaurant in Spring Valley in the hope of providing a better life for their six children. Named for their eldest daughter Karina, this location closed when the family chose to expand the brand into a San Diego County-spanning group that now encompasses numerous Karina’s Mexican Seafood locations, Karina’s Taco Shop and the soon-to-open Karina’s Ceviches & More. An insistence upon on-target authenticity guides Karina’s restaurants daily, with a clientele willing to wait in line to enjoy their expansive menu of popular Mexican seafood specialties. Karina’s Group also includes Savoie Eatery in Otay Ranch Town Center and Su-Mei Yu’s iconic Saffron Thai in Mission Hills.
